THE GRANITE PROSPECT

The Granite Prospect was opened in March 2010 during the first phase of the Brooklyn Bridge Park waterfront redevelopment project. Located within Pier 1, a 9.5 acre parcel of the park built entirely out of landfill, the Granite Prospect features a set of steps constructed out of over 300 pieces of granite salvaged from the Roosevelt Island Bridge reconstruction. These steps have become a popular area for viewing the East River and the Manhattan skyline, and for hosting events including the “Song of Myself” reading marathon which is held every year in May around Walt Whitman’s birthday.
